Description

In Mont Blanc GTX, with a RECCO reflector in the right boot, Dachstein has developed its first crampon-compatible mountaineering model for high range alpine tours on rocks and in snow.
The tweaked board lasted construction gives this boot extreme shape stability and the neoprene shaft closure keeps out grit and snow. The Vibram® Mulaz rubber sole with its medium-depth tread provides reliable grip, whatever the conditions underfoot. The GORE-TEX membrane guarantees the shoe is waterproof and breathable, however cold the conditions en route. Finally, Dachstein has the shoes produced 100% in Italy to be certain their customers are getting the be‍‍‍‍‍st quality product possible.

Caring for membrane footwear

Membrane footwear is also no stranger to water!

After cleaning and drying your footwear, boots with a protective membrane must un‍‍‍‍der no circumstances have oily or greasy care products rubbed into them. Such products help to make leather goods waterproof, but in membranes they cause the build-up of water between the membrane and the outer material, preventing the release of humidity. As a rule, membrane footwear doesn’t require any care after cleaning. However, although the membrane ensures the shoe or boot remains basically waterproof, the uppers should still be impregnated regularly with a Durable Water Repellent (DWR) spray. Usually, such footwear has already been DWR-impregnated prior to sale. Nevertheless, this protection can wear off with intensive use. This protective effect can be regenerated by coating outer surfaces with one of the many DWR sprays on the market. It is far easier to impregnate shoes with a spray than it is to immerse an item in a DWR solution, as is often the case with clothing.

Hooks and eyelets can be protected from rust and corrosion by applying a dab of Vaseline or wax. There are special sprays to combat unpleasant smells. The insoles can wear out and should be replaced regularly, since they absorb the majority of the sweat produced and are subject to the greatest amount of wear.

Cleaning trekking boots outdoors

Jump in the stream!

On multiple-day tours it’s important to rinse off the worst of the dirt carefully at the end of the day in a stream or by using another source of water. Subsequently, laces should be fully loosened and insoles removed. Our tip: Even after a one-day tour, stepping into a stream makes cleaning at home much easier, because the dirt doesn’t get a chance to dry on.
