Loden is a material that has been at home in the mountains for centuries, traditionally being used for its natural functionality, and now as an unmistakeable symbol of alpine heritage.
For many years Dachstein has been manufacturing footwear that integrates loden into its ‘Lifestyle’ and ‘Outdoor’ collections, and it’s clearly a material of great importance in Styrian designer Lena Hoschek’s own collection. Lena, and Dachstein’s own designer, Christoph Döttelmayer, have used colours and patterns imaginatively in the creation of Käthe GTX. They have produced two very unique boots that translate customary styles and craftsmanship into a modern-day design language that clearly communicates their origins. Elegant full-grain leather and wing-tip elements lock in the sophisticated Loden of Steiner 1888 around the entire base of the uppers. One version features traditional grey loden with brown leather surrounds, while the other integrates a stylish dark green Rosegger check pattern – lovingly protected all round by black full-grain leather. Both boots are very much at home in Lena Hoschek’s Dachstein collection. The ebullient contrasting bright yellow seam exudes a strong sense of personality, and no Dachstein footwear is complete without the functionality required in the world of mountaineering. Käthe GTX is kitted out for every eventuality with a waterproof, breathable GORE-TEX membrane, soft fleece lining and an extremely grippy, yet light-footed foam sole.
