3 days hiking - In the Hochkönig region
30. October 2019
At the end of August we went hiking in the Hochkönig region together with bloggers, photographers, influencers and locals. It were three wonderful days, during which we got to know the diversity and beauty of the region. Eva-Maria has summarized her impressions and experiences of the tour in this article.t.
Unique mountain panorama
We start our three days long hike with the ride of the Natrunbahn to the Prinzenberg. The impressive mountain world shows its most beautiful side already while driving up. Once at the top, we are about 15 minutes away from the Prinzensee. The mountains are partly still hiding in the morning fog, but we decide to wait. It's worth waiting - because slowly the fog breaks up and the complete panorama with the Stone Sea and the Hochkönig Massif shows itself in its full magnificence. I look at the others, their faces shine, because now nature shows itself from its most beautiful side. The mountains are reflected in the lake, the fog fields can only be seen on the horizon - an indescribably beautiful atmosphere. After this unique spectacle of nature, we set off again.
Our hike continues to the Jufenalm in the direction of Hintermoos. Our next destination is already fixed, for us it is the Erichhütte. Always in view: the imposing Hochkönig. Passing cows we climb up to the hut, where the host already welcomes us with a large pan of Kasnocken. We enjoy the nocken decorated with chives to the full. In addition, we can try the homemade juices of the hut owner and to round off the first half of our hiking day we can drink a rowanberry schnapps.
After a short rest, we continue along the Höhenwanderweg (high-level hiking trail) at the foot of the Hochkönig in the direction of the Arthurhaus. The fantastic landscape combined with great conversation makes every hike something very special. On this tour we pass beautiful mountains and traditional huts like the four huts between Mühlbach and Dienten. But a very special highlight on this trail is still waiting for us: the Rieding waterfalls. We hear them already from far away, how they rush down from high above and hit the rocks. But see for yourself - pictures say more than 1000 words.
At the end of our way we meet the rest of our group at the Arthurhaus in Mühlbach and continue together to our sleeping place for the first night, on the Mitterfeldalm. When we arrive, the first thing to do is to put our feet up and enjoy our well-earned cool beer! Slowly but surely the first day comes to an end. The last rays of sunshine, which make the alpine pasture and the mountains appear golden, are naturally caught and captured in pictures. As dusk slowly sets in, the hut hosts prepare us an emperor's shamarren, which could not have been better. Decorated with cranberry jam and sprinkled with icing sugar, it reminds us a little of the alpenglow of the mountains in autumn, when there is already a little snow on the summit. We think back, to the cordial nature of the innkeepers our dreamlike tour, the unmistakable mountain world and fall into bed tired after a long day of hiking over twenty kilometers. But before we go to sleep, we still make our plans for the next day and dream of the unique mountain experiences of the past day - a truly high-royal feeling.
